It's the little stuff, isn't it?
The little things mean the most, don't they? Something as simple as a PM from someone unexpected or a positive reply to a post you've made can make your day, huh?
I just want to thank the GWG administrator who did such a nice thing for such a deserving person today. You're the best.
It IS the little things that mean the most.

LOL I have a job. I'm a teacher and have been for an unmentionable number of years. I love my work. There's something very satisfying in teaching 8-year-olds. I love the joy they exude though at times it's a rather daunting job---especially these days. Yet the rewards are worth every tough moment, every hour spent outside the "contract day".
Thank you for your kind words. They mean a lot.

Indeed, I must concur with that...it is the little things, for instance, a friend jsut says something weird and funny and then you keep thinking of it all day and can't stop laughing ^^

Teaching has its ups and downs...it can be frustrating sometimes too.
Yes, the little things mean the most. The tiniest gestures can be worth quite a lot

Teaching. nice.
I'm working on my music major to become a music teacher for:
Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Marching, Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Concert Choir, Madrigals, and many more chamber groups.
High achiever? I might need another teacher helping me.
Anyways, yes, little things can make a person's day ie. My best friend opening the door for me for the first time since 6th grade

Aniewiel, why do you have to bring me back down to reality with your serious threads? Honestly, you piss PieXags off! You and your "moderating", more like "Pissingoffpiexagsing"! Always locking threads before I get to post senseless things in them, always! You won't get rid of me that easily, never!!! Sometimes I get so frustrated, I have to send you a PM about how frustrated I am! Having those 15 seconds of my response typing taken away when you lock a topic is unforgivable!
Hahaha...ah God I like this place. I get to screw around, dick around, screw around, and above all, dick around all day. Getting pissed off, being a smartass, looking at pink avatars, having moderators lock horrible threads I'm about to post in, etc. You're right, it is the little things that make life worth living. Well, actually I'm living because I'm afraid of dying meaninglessly. I want to die in a cool way, and a wicked way to die hasn't presented itself yet. Besides, if I died, who would be around to lighten the mood in an otherwise serious thread? Who?!
Haha, you guys crack me up.
Cheers.

When I die, I want to have an Irish wake. But slightly modified; it really just has to be a party. Beer (bring other fine beverages if desired ), snacks, and a band. None of that sadness crap because, after I'm dead, it's not like it will do anything for me. But I WILL give people an excuse to party, and I am always in favor of a good party

I want a good old-fashioned Irish wake too. Don't cry too much. Celebrate who I was.
Aniewiel - Bless you. Teachers, nurses, firefighters, police officers and EMS personnel are the most overworked, underpaid and unappreciated fields. You have to have a helping heart to chose those fields. You'll always be tired, sore and poor. Hug the next teacher, nurse, firefighter, officer or EMS you see. One day a year for an "appreciation day" for each of those professions is not enough.
(And for anyone who is wondering, I'm in nursing school. I could make a lot more $ if I did anesthesia, but bedside nursing is my calling. I'm planning on either neonatal intensive care, pediatric intensive care or pediatric oncology.)

You'll have to indulge me this bit of cynicism, but I can't resist. As a teacher, you HAVE to enjoy the little things... because you sure aren't in it for the "big" things. The value society places on the profession can almost bring you to tears sometimes, especially compared to how other jobs with similar education requirements are treated. Getting bossed around by people who have never set foot in a classroom, yet think they know everything about education, can get frustrating as well. Being at the whim of politicians who use the schools as a pawn in their games... shall I go on?
But when you see that lightbulb go off in a kid's head... it makes it all worthwhile.

As a teacher, I just bury my head in my classroom and ignore the politicians and state-level people. I do what they ask me to do (which, truthfully, isn't any different than what I've done for the last 21 years LOL!) and my kids learn---sometimes despite me.
I teach in an inner city school in Phoenix. My school is 95% free lunch qualified, Title I, 74% mobility rate, 1500 kids in a school build for 1000. Their most basic needs are food, shelter and...somewhere down the line, education. I am their teacher, parent (sometimes), guardian, sibling, councillor, police officer, chef, friend, clothier, translator, comic relief, disciplinarian, nurse...the list could go on.
But every smile they give me is a precious gift. Every hug is worth every heartache, and those are legion in a school of poverty. Every time a child learns something, the job is that much sweeter.
Is it a tough and often thankless job (at least on the part of adults)? Yes. Would I ever do anything else? Not in a million years.
And back on topic: I am home sick today and was out yesterday with my sick child. I went in today to make sure my plans were set and found that one of my teammates had already taken care of it. My day/week/year is made because of that one small gesture.

It is always the small things. The small things make you smile and remind you that there is good in the world.....
I think that the two most thankless jobs are being a mom and being a teacher. But the end reward is far more then one can ever imagine.
Aniewiel~ I admire you You are a wonderful woman to teach children I am a stay at home mom, and you reminded me something by your last post... a smile makes all the difference... Sometimes it is hard to remember why we do what we do... rather being a mom or teacher....but a smile is such a small thing that can make you stop and remember that life is good....
You are truly a sunshine in a hard mommy day Thank you incredibly
~Dame

I think Aniewiel would be the sort of teacher you never forget
Teachers are expected to be like parents these days so I can't imagine it's easy, especially if the kids' parents haven't taught them respect.
